100 Love Letters to Strangers

During the next few days I will be passing out my letters to strangers. The letters are facts, quotes, and personal writings that I have compiled. I want people to feel loved or realize something about themselves. I want people to smile or laugh, really any emotion will be a success to me. I want walls to be broken and bridges to be crossed.
My hope is that at least one person is affected by this and checks out my blog to learn why I gave it to them.
I'm so excited to get this started :]

Cascade succeeds at being safer and fails at actually working

Cascade went through a huge change of their dishwasher product by reducing traces of phosphate in their products. Phosphate helps remove spots but also ends up in ecosystems and hurts wildlife. While the change is a step in the right direction, they failed themselves in selling a good and working product. I'm intrigued of what will happen next with this company.

Worlds Biggest Graffitti Tag

In 2006 artist Momo painted an orange line that travels 8 miles through different areas of Manhattan. Many people don't even notice the line which is rather sad, but that makes the experience that much more special for those of them who do. The line cannot be viewed all at once, but spells out the name of the artist. I think that is so awesome it's ridiculous. Momo made such a huge statement by tagging such popular sidewalks, but no one can see it as intentional unless you follow it.
Definitely a cool guerrilla tactic.

Craigslist Sex Ads ByeBye

So Craigslist took down the sex ads, "adult services" as they call it, on their website. They were found in the personals section. But, that makes a major question come to my head. WHY THE HELL would they allow prostitution on their site? That's exactly what it is right? Last week a friend of mine found out her boyfriend was replying to some of these ads as a "fetish" and that he would never actual go and pay a woman for her services. But really.. why is that allowed on such a well known website.
This is just one of those things I will never understand I guess..

I'm really into the 100 Love Letters to Strangers idea. I think it would be like a peace bombing on campus. I definitely hope it'll make the people who receive the letters laugh.. Either at me for being ridiculously creepy or as a pick-me-up of sorts. It will be tough to come up with 100 different ways of saying someone's thinking about you, but I could always just do some "Roses are red, violets are blue..." type deals.

First randomly controlled pain-relieving marijuana test

Doctors found that taking just 3 puffs of marijuana a day can help people who have pain associated with nerve damage that regular pain kills cannot treat. This is one of the first tests done and it was a great success that also proved marijuana can help with sleep and anxiety. Now if only the government would pay attention we could get some new laws passed.

Hopefully these ads will give my classmates some inspiration

Massive Change, Massively Addictive

There's something so inspiring in the juxtapose of the few simple, yet direct statements on the commanding pictures on each page of this book's introduction. It just hooks your eyes and mind with no intention of letting them go.. ever again. It's as if I was seeing all the information for the first time, which is hardly the case. Massive Change really does have a jaw dropping quality to it that gets you so stoked and ready to whip out your sketchbook and #2s and just start designing for everything and anything in the world. The content is full of fantastic facts and uplifting examples, starting 100% with the first paragraph about the Arnold Toynbee theories. This book is definitely a must have for any new designer, in school or not.
